Less than 30% of lost manufacturing jobs will be refilled

U.S. manufacturing may fill less than 30% of the 2 million jobs lost during the recession, according to the National Association of Manufacturers. Factories could resume hiring in 2011 and 2012, and hiring could be boosted by a change to make tax credits permanent for research and development. The U.S. factory workforce stood at 11.6 million in March, down from 19.2 million in March 1980.
