Researchers: Effective leaders use observations to improve, not criticize teachers

Principals who use their observational time to focus on professional development and improving instruction, rather than simply monitoring teachers and pointing out errors were more effective, education reporter Sarah D. Sparks writes in this blog post about recent research. University of Alabama researcher Jingping Sun's study of data found that principals could improve student performance by, among other things, focusing more on individualized support for teachers and modeling quality instruction.
