Hackers are exploiting third-party systems, such as vendor software, to breach company networks. Attacks have been launched through vending machines; heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; and videoconferencing equipment, as well as billing, expense and human resources management systems. Companies can protect against security risks by limiting third-party access to systems, sealing off sensitive data and remotely monitoring systems for anomalous traffic.
