Researchers warn of brain and neck cancers affecting ICs

Israeli researchers have identified 36 cases of neck and brain cancers among physicians who work in cath labs since they began collecting the data in 2012. Interventional cardiologists accounted for 28 of the cases, reflecting the specialty's exposure to radiation, said lead researcher Dr. Ariel Roguin. The clinicians who developed cancer had performed procedures for a mean of 23 years, and half the cases involved glioblastoma multiforme tumors, according to the study.
