Program combines hospice care, aggressive treatment

While most terminally ill patients only have the choice of aggressively fighting their disease at a high cost or having low-cost hospice care and succumbing to defeat, Aetna has joined Kaiser Permanente in offering a new program to cover both hospice care and aggressive treatment. The pilot program is part of a growing trend by hospices, the federal government and insurers to be more flexible to ease the financial and psychological stresses of dying.
