In a world of iPods, cell phones, TV, computers and other electronics, a group of Los Angeles sophomores will attempt to go without the ubiquitous devices for seven days, columnist Steve Lopez writes. Charter-school teacher Shannon Meyer hopes the "media fast" will give her students perspective and teach them to combat boredom and adjust to the slower pace of academic life.
