Chief information officers need to cross-train staff members to prepare for the possible spread of swine flu because the 24/7 nature of their departments could put their companies at risk if too many workers are sick or at home taking care of sick family members, says Gartner research analyst Rick DeLotto. Other options for preparing IT departments for a pandemic are developing work-at-home strategies and figuring out how to feed night shifts if stores and restaurants close.
