Settlement will enable Broadcom to expand

Broadcom's settlement of its long-running patent dispute with Qualcomm will enable the chip maker to move aggressively into selling 3G and eventually 4G technology to handset makers who had previously been wary of Broadcom's prospects, according to industry analysts. They say the company's future looks brighter because several chip makers have withdrawn from the wireless sector at a time when cell phone makers are looking for alternative suppliers.
