Study: Gene treatment benefits patients with diabetic polyneuropathy

Intramuscular injections of vascular endothelial growth factor gene appear to be more effective than placebo in improving sensory symptoms and alleviating pain in patients with diabetic polyneuropathy, U.S. researchers found. The findings suggest the gene treatment is safe to perform, but a larger trial should be conducted before it can be used as a "mainstream therapy," one of the researchers said.
