Washington, D.C., microloan program gets off to slow start

Officials in Washington, D.C., have created a microloan program to provide low-interest loans for small businesses registered with the city. They had hoped the program would prompt small businesses to apply for loans, noting that Small Business Administration loans in the area declined 44% in 2008 from the previous year. Nevertheless, just 15 businesses have applied for the microloan program since it was launched.
