Construction firms scramble to beat rebate deadline

Some of America's biggest construction companies are rushing to ink new homebuilding contracts ahead of Friday's tax-rebate deadline. Companies such as Lennar are staying open until midnight to let laggardly consumers slip inside the rebate window, while other outfits are offering tax-credit-matching deals, discounted closing costs and free outdoor grills to lure last-minute shoppers.
