Reform law makes better quality a priority for hospitals

The new health reform law puts hospitals on notice that failure to improve patient safety and quality of care will mean fines and lower or no government reimbursement. Provisions in the law target medical errors, hospital-acquired infections and readmissions that cost the system billions of dollars a year.
