Sprint says fewer customers left, looks to first WiMAX phone

Sprint Nextel's wireless defections slowed to 75,000 subscribers in the first quarter, but the report either gave investors reasons to cheer or proved a disappointment -- depending on the media account. Some emphasized Sprint's best performance on subscribers in three years, while the bears noted that most of Sprint's losses came from their highest-paying customers. CEO Dan Hesse said introduction of its HTC EVO 4G WiMAX phone could "provide a tailwind to our momentum."
