Samsung's smartphone sales are strong, but total handsets dip

Samsung Electronics enjoyed strong smartphone sales in the first quarter, but the number of handsets sold overall fell 14% compared with a year ago, the South Korean company reported Thursday. Smartphones accounted for 18% of the company's unit volume, compared with 4% in the same period last year, but the company forecast a "challenging" outlook because of tough competition, even with the introduction of its Galaxy S II smartphone and Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet.
