Accountants: Tech firms use offshore strategies to avoid U.S. taxes

Apple is one of many U.S. technology firms that take advantage of gaps in tax laws designed for the industrial age to escape paying billions of dollars in taxes. Hundreds of corporations have imitated Apple's technique by routing profit through places such as Ireland, the Netherlands and the Caribbean, accountants say.
