TV advertisers spent $71.8 billion in 2011, Nielsen says

TV ad spending last year increased 5% to $71.8 billion, even without the draw of a national election or the Olympics, Nielsen reports. The total may be the first to cross the $70 billion mark, but Nielsen says it has only five years of figures. Meanwhile, sports ad spending from October 2010 through September 2011 increased 6% to $10.9 billion.
