Android grows global market share, Windows Phone gains

Android devices accounted for nearly two-thirds of all sales in nine key global markets in the first quarter, according to Kantar Worldpanel Comtech, which found the Google platform dominant in all countries except Japan. In the U.S., Android inched up its market share to 49.3%, compared with 47.9% a year ago, while second-place Apple declined by 0.9 percentage points to 43.7%. Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system grew its market share to 5.6%, from 3.7%, with gains largely coming from those upgrading from feature phones.
