Data released by STR show improvements in key hotel metrics during the first quarter amid a nearly 3% rise in room demand. The quarter saw 250 million room nights sold as occupancy grew 1.8%. "[Revenue per available room] increased 6.4%, lifted by a solid 4.5% gain in [average daily rate]. Most impressively, the industry posted meaningful results despite a difficult Easter comparable, stubbornly low group demand and generally tougher demand comparables," said Brad Garner, chief operating officer of STR.
