FSMB issues policy recommendations for telemedicine

Telemedicine should adopt the same standards of care as in-person patient encounters and clinicians who use it should establish a credible doctor-patient relationship, according to the Federation of State Medical Boards' new model policy on appropriate use of telemedicine technology. The American Telemedicine Association objected to recommendations that physicians practicing telemedicine hold a license in the same state where patients are physically located.
