Housing finance bill faces uncertain future

Today, the Senate banking committee will consider legislation that would wind down Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and replace them with an agency offering a government mortgage guarantee. While sponsors of the bill appear to have enough support to get it out of the committee, it is uncertain whether it will be taken up by the full Senate and, if so, whether it will have the necessary support to pass.
