Low vitamin D levels may be common after kidney transplants

A study of 53 kidney transplant patients in Southern California found that 83% had vitamin D deficiency or had insufficient vitamin levels four months after the procedure. Although most of the patients were taking vitamin D supplements, only nine had adequate levels of the vitamin. The findings were presented at the National Kidney Foundation meeting.
