New farm bill to propel U.S. bio-based chemicals industry

Language in the Agricultural Act of 2014 offering incentives for manufacturing renewable chemicals is expected to boost the U.S. bio-based industry, writes former Pennsylvania Gov. Mark Schweiker. Makers of renewable chemicals can now receive funds under certain Title IX energy programs. "The inclusion of renewable chemicals into these programs will position the United States as a global leader in this industry, a rapidly growing portion of the $3.5 trillion global chemical market," Schweiker notes.
