N.Y. district finds success with co-taught speech-language model

A New York school district plans to expand a speech-therapy model that pairs speech-language pathologists with general-education teachers. In the STEPS to Success program, speech therapists identify skills that students need to practice, and general-education teachers incorporate those speech sounds into lessons. "It's high-intensity, front-loaded services early on in a kid's education, with the benefit of fewer services down the road," said Chris Suriano, executive director of specialized services.
