N.Y. offers student-teachers a second chance to pass teaching exam

The New York State Board of Regents will ease requirements for student-teachers to pass a new, rigorous assessment before earning their teaching credentials. Under a decision made Tuesday, student-teachers who take and fail the edTPA assessment before June 2015 will be offered a chance to pass a written exam to receive their initial teacher certification. The edTPA requires submission of video recordings of student-teachers conducting lessons and a written portion. The edTPA is being introduced in May as part of the federal Race to the Top program.
