Report: Android makes global tablet gains

Google's Android grew its global share of the tablet market at Apple's expense in the first quarter as the iPad-maker shifted its upgrade release schedule to the holiday shopping season, according to a report from Strategy Analytics. On the smartphone side, shipments grew by 33% from a year ago, but Apple and Samsung suffered declines in their shares. Analysts cited competition from low-end Chinese rivals and Apple's lack of a presence in the budget market for their drop. Samsung held a 31% share to 15% for Apple.
