Senate extends Internet tax ban

The Senate voted 93-3 to extend the Internet tax ban for four years, allowing no new taxes on high-speed access until Nov. 1, 2007. The bill must be now reconciled with a broader House bill to ban the taxes permanently. Opponents of a permanent ban said the Senate bill offered sufficient protection to local governments, which have said they stand to lose millions in tax revenues.
