Winn-Dixie to close 156 stores, cut up to 10,000 jobs

The Jacksonville, Fla.-based chain said it will streamline operations over the next year to cut costs after reporting same-store sales fell 6.4% in its fiscal third quarter and added it would offer employees other positions with the company if possible. Wal-Mart Supercenters have been opening in the Southeast where Winn-Dixie has a strong presence, pressuring competitors to lower prices.
