CMS: All hospitals must provide basic emergency care

The CMS issued guidance requiring all hospitals participating in Medicare, including specialty hospitals and others without emergency departments, to be able to provide basic emergency care interventions. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, questioned whether the requirement is enough, saying, "CMS also ought to look at the current requirements for emergency services capabilities to see if they need to be strengthened."
