Governors urge action on guest worker program

In response to concerns that seasonal businesses face significant labor shortages, the governors of 17 states in a letter urged Congress to expand the guest worker program for a year. "Time is running out for small businesses across the country which depend on the H-2B visa program to meet their hiring needs during peak seasons," the governors' letter stated. With controversy surrounding immigration reform, lawmakers so far have failed to extend a provision allowing additional visas for guest workers.
