Smart infrastructure could be the wave of the future, ranging from the smart grid to RFID tags on perishable food. The technology hinges on wireless sensors that can transmit data on energy usage, traffic patterns and even food consumption. "We've barely scratched the surface of how information technology can help control and conserve energy use," said Rosabeth Moss Kanter, a professor of business administration at the Harvard Business School.
