Adult mortality rates are mostly steady worldwide, study shows

U.S. and Australian researchers found that women in Cyprus and men in Iceland have the lowest risk of premature death worldwide, and only a few countries, including Australia and Italy, have successfully reduced mortality rates by more than 2% since 1970. The U.S. ranked 49th in mortality rates for women and 45th for men.
