WRIT CEO attributes high-occupancy rate to careful management

Washington Real Estate Investment Trust has enjoyed increased earnings despite the recession by focusing on its balance sheet, maintaining an abundance of equity in its portfolio and hewing to a conservative management strategy, President and CEO George F. McKenzie said. With a portfolio of 11 million square feet, WRIT boasts an occupancy rate "in the low 90s," said McKenzie, who describes its medical office buildings as the best performers.
