Drug trials often overlook pediatric patients, study shows

U.S. researchers looked at almost 2,500 drug trials from 2006 to 2011 and found only 12% targeted pediatric patients despite children representing 60% of the disease burden. They also reported that pediatric trials were often single-center rather than multicenter and that many failed to adequately examine safety outcomes. The study was presented at a Pediatric Academic Societies meeting and will be published in the journal Pediatrics.
