Over the years, Hawaii's tourism industry has thrived under a collaboration among its tourism authorities, various tour suppliers and lodging establishments that view sustainability as a responsibility and a means to support the environment through tourism. "The Hawaiian Islands are a microcosm of the world. When visitors come here, they see we are working hard on becoming even more sustainable. And we're doing so while presenting a sense of place that's like nowhere else," said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
