NFC-enabled payments aren't ready for prime time, says IEEE fellow

A critical mass of consumers using NFC-enabled payments on their smartphones is necessary before such payments make a major impact, said IEEE fellow Jack Winters. And for that to happen, NFC must be available nearly everywhere, until which time there's no compelling reason to switch from payments by credit card, Winters said.
