Treasury's forex clearing exemption remains unclear

The Treasury last year proposed making foreign exchange swaps and forwards exempt from clearing requirements, but it hasn't confirmed that stance. "We have issued a proposed determination and are carefully reviewing the comments received, but have not made any final decisions," says Anthony Cooley, deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the Treasury. The situation has prompted speculation that the government might be reconsidering the exemption.
