Ill. city council must adjust bedbug proposal amid concerns

The Chicago City Council will continue work on an ordinance aimed at eradicating bedbugs after members questioned the weight of responsibility. While the measure is meant to encourage tenants and landlords to act quickly if bedbugs are found in an apartment, there are no penalties to hold tenants accountable if they do not report bedbugs, while landlords face fines, which some aldermen say is unfair.
