Facebook buys the company behind the location-based fitness app Moves

Facebook is showing increasing interest in the mobile location market with the recent acquisition of ProtoGeo Oy, the company behind the fitness-tracking application Moves, which also tracks a user's daily movements, writes Mark Walsh. While Facebook has said Moves will remain a standalone app for now, it raises the possibility that Facebook is looking to use data from the app to form a more complete picture of its users' everyday activities. Facebook will likely have to take such steps carefully to avoid concerns over privacy issues, Walsh writes.
