Male scientists' odor could stink up experiments

Lab mice are stressed out by the smell of male researchers, causing them to behave differently in response to pain and other stimuli, a new study has found. The finding throws into question a huge body of research into the health and behavior of lab animals, none of which controlled for the gender of the investigating scientists. "It's really astounding that such a robust effect could have been missed for so many years," says neuroscientist Jeffrey Mogil.
