Shop owners on Magazine Street in New Orleans, once a haven for locally owned businesses, are feeling the pressure as national chains take a greater interest in the city. In a recent survey, about two-thirds of local business owners in the area reported a "higher than normal rate of rent increases," and many of them worried that this could take a toll on their companies. "I don't want us to lose our Southern charm, and I think small businesses help with that culture," said entrepreneur Angee Jackson.
