Florida students in fourth, eighth grades improve writing skills

Florida fourth- and eighth-graders improved their performance on the state's writing test in 2009 compared with students in 2008, according to results released Thursday by the Florida education department. High-school sophomores, on the other hand, scored slightly worse on average. About 77% of sophomores passed the test, compared with 85% of fourth-graders and 90% of eighth-graders.
