Ireland strives to help retailers survive recession

Dermot Ahern, justice minister for Ireland, warned landlords that lawmakers would legislate against rent reviews that only resulted in increased rents unless a "flexible and pragmatic approach" is taken to help retailers. "There is a growing awareness that, in current economic circumstances, rents need to be reduced if businesses are not to fail," a spokesman for the justice minister said.
