S.D. veterinarians move on due to financial constraints

The AVMA has noted certain counties in South Dakota do not have enough large animal veterinarians, and state veterinarian Dustin Oedekoven thinks the problem may be that veterinarians are concentrated in certain geographical areas and not others. Some veterinarians end up leaving the state to earn higher incomes to pay back student loans, which also contributes to the problem, according to veterinarian Penny Dye, president of the South Dakota Veterinary Medical Association.
