The United Nations predicts the global population will reach 8 billion by 2025, and it will be up to the members of the AEC community to come up with viable housing options, writes Michael Hammond. For those very few who can afford it, some of these options come in the form of super-luxurious, super-tall apartment towers in New York City and Miami. But the towers aren't just a trend in the U.S. There's the Shard in the U.K., the Princess Tower in Dubai and more. Then, too, there are those who advocate "human scale architecture" and "street friendly development that facilitates a vibrant street life" to encourage dense urban population instead of urban sprawl.
