Analysis: Unraveling Franco-German ties hinder European recovery

Progress toward solving Europe's economic problems has slowed because of a deteriorating relationship between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande. German diplomats say Hollande has given up on working with Merkel and hopes an election in September will sweep her from power and produce a chancellor willing to compromise with France and back initiatives to stimulate growth.
