BIO: RFS has positive effects on biotech, biofuel sectors

BIO and four other biofuel groups have commented on a House committee's white paper on the Renewable Fuel Standard's impact on the agriculture industry. "Through the mandate of the RFS and the increased use of biotechnology, we are beginning to see the rapid development of biofuels and the biobased economy, which can help mitigate the volatility energy prices cause to commodities, transportation, energy costs, and processing," said BIO Industrial and Environmental Section Executive Vice President Brent Erickson. The RFS is driving the development of farm biotechnology, which can boost grain productivity without increasing fertilizer and chemical use, Erickson said.
