DOD hopes to win sequester exception

The Pentagon wants Congress to give it an exception to sequestration cuts the way it gave one to the Federal Aviation Administration. It says the cost of pulling out of Afghanistan, coupled with threats from North Korea and Iran, make such a break crucial. The Defense Department could make a request next week to the House appropriations panel to be allowed to shift funds within the department rather than cut all areas across the board.
