IDC: Tablet shipments in Q1 topple numbers from first half of 2012

An IDC report says more tablets were shipped in the first quarter than were shipped in the first six months of 2012, and Apple wasn't the only maker pulling big numbers. "Every major tablet maker saw large gains in shipments during the first quarter -- and one of the notable results of that is that Apple's overall share of the tablet market is decreasing," Erica Ogg writes. Apple still shipped the most tablets in the quarter, 19.5 million, an increase of 64% from the year before. However, Samsung, Microsoft and others gained, with Samsung seeing 8.8 million shipments, up from 2.3 million in the same quarter in 2012.
