IPAB drug cuts averted due to slow Medicare spending growth

The Independent Payment Advisory Board will not impose cuts in U.S. government payments to drugmakers in 2015 due to the slow growth of Medicare spending, according to a memo from the actuary for CMS. "Since the Affordable Care Act was enacted, growth in Medicare per capita spending has slowed significantly, putting Medicare on a more sustainable path to keep its commitment to seniors and persons with disabilities today and well into the future," CMS spokesman Brian Cook said in e-mail.
