A new, more casual luxury traveler has different expectations

Hotel industry leaders convened at the American Express Publishing Luxury Summit recently, and most of them talked about an emerging class of luxury traveler that the hospitality industry has to cater to. CNBC wealth editor Robert Frank said the new luxury traveler may have "new" money and come from the Midwest, and may not crave traditional luxury items or amenities as luxury travelers in the past. "They look so casual, walking around a hotel in a swimsuit, but when they want service, they want it delivered flawlessly," noted John Vanderslice, global head of luxury and lifestyle brands for Hilton Worldwide.
